Haven't listened to any of his music in many a year 12tone. A friend and I went through a somewhat heavy Stockhausen and Berio phase back in the 80's.

Didn't know he smoked a pipe :)

Bertrand Russell himself. Any man who says this about work (see below) is OK in my book.
Calvin

I want to say, in all seriousness, that a great deal of harm is being done in the modern world by the belief in the virtuousness of work, and that the road to happiness and prosperity lies in an organized diminution of work.Bertrand Russell, In Praise of Idleness

Strongly agree. Author of Principia Mathematica, which contains the great line after his proof that 1+1=2 "sometimes this proposition is useful". As an undergrad after we were shown this proof we were asked to prove 1+2=3.

I remember reading Russell's Why I am not a Christian when I was in my teens. Then getting heavily into Koestler's The Act of Creation and The Ghost in the Machine. Ahhh...the curiosity of youth !

Just thought I'd mention that.

Stephen Fry is a British actor/writer/comedian who once won Pipe Smoker of the Year.

They awarded him a very unusual award that converts to an unusual smokable pipe.

Here is a still of the award/pipe while being smoked. The microphone on the top of the award comes off for easier smoking.

Thanks for posting, Jim! Im not very good with computers...
Beautiful picture, I too like tweed but over here you have to be over 70 years old to wear it, be careful not to stick out from the crowd in Sweden. A sick mentality we have going on here in some ways. Getting better, though.

A good friend of mine, an older lady who passed away a year ago always said that I look a bit like mr. Howard. I did not object, even though I had a hard time seeing it myself. I can only wish.

Well, I think so too, but the traditional swedish mentality suggests the opposite! Luckily things are changing to the better I think. The conformism isnt as heavy as it used to be when I grew up.
Hell, tomorrow I´ll wear my three piece tweed suit :D Finally!
