I like men like that - a good dry sense of humour. John Arlott was another (although he was just cricket).

No that was Phil Drabble and Eric Halsall a great no nonsense northerner
I used to like fred trueman as well commenting on the test matches on the radio he was very blunt

Boycott is doing pretty well at that presently ... I like Boycott also ... says what he means, even if it upsets a few, which it usually does ..

Yer, loved listening to boycott, still do. Speaks his mind the Yorkshire way :lol:

Richie benaud was another commentator I remember well, he's still going too.

I also remeber listening to a copy of the audio "the batsmanship holding the bowlers willy " :lol: think it was Brian Johnston.

Shame on the BBC for allowing something as shameful as this to be broadcast. Cricket can be funny ......

When I lived in Canada, the funniest thing I saw was a sport called curling. I couldn't stop laughing watching those guys with their brooms. :lol:

I was about to say that curling is popular in Scotland. I then decided to look it up. According to Wiki ;

Curling is thought to have been invented in medieval Scotland, with the first written reference to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire, in February 1541.

You live and learn eh ?

He was always banging on about blood sports, which I hate, so, pipe-smoker or not, I didn't much like him, I'm afraid.
I was on a boat once with four pipes, but nothing to light them with, so I threw one overboard, and the boat became a pipe lighter.
