I have to agree, Gnossos, I grew up on the Pixies. I skateboarded growing up and all the older kids in my neighborhood that skated always were listening to the Pixies, it sometimes seemed like it was all I ever heard. All the songs you posted are fantastic recommendation. I also love Gaelic and folk music though, here is a great video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svRw6ry5x-0

Great thread, good idea.

Here's my current favorite musician, Kelly Joe Phelps. He's undoubtedly the most honest musician I've ever seen or heard, free in his playing style and a powerful singer, with a voice the color of a glass of Jameson. Impossible to categorize his music, folk/blues/jazz is as close as you can get but that's still miles off. Anyone who has ever touched an acoustic guitar, or can appreciate a true musician, needs to hear this guy:

"Country Blues"

Here's an older video from Jools Holland a few years ago...He's playing lap-style slide guitar, which he doesn't do much anymore. I guarantee your chin will end up with rug-burn after you watch this, not only from his skill but the intensity of his delivery:

I got a free ticket from a buddy and we drove to NYC tonight to see Sonic Youth...

My personal favourite band: The Cat Empire

Two Shoes

Days Like These

To name just two, seen them 5 times, though they are hardly known in the UK they are huge in Australia.
I guess you would call them a jazz rock hip hop soul fusion

Enjoy

I enjoy watching the first drummer in Om--he's a great "metal" (and I say that loosely) drummer. I borrowed some of their cd's from my neighbor. (I was percussion major in college)

I'll go on Amazon and check out The Cat Empire. Thanks guys-jim

Here's something to smoke your pipe by. Maybe some of the guys on the other side of the pond know Dutch guitar player Jan Akkerman.

Awesome guitar playing Bob! I don't play guitar though :)

I've a great fondness for early / renaissance music, so I mess around with recorders and, recently, whistles.

I saw her play live at The Blackheath Halls in London. 2003 or 2004 it was. Good gig :)

Oh man. I'm jealous. I'm hoping I get a chance to see her live but I know my chances are slim.

I've had The Spazzys spinning in my car for the last few days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UG_a0Q4s5IA

100% Ramones influenced rock and roll and they're obviously not ashamed to admit it with songs like "I Wanna Cut My Hair Like Marky Ramone" and featuring Marky Ramone in this video. :D

I'll chime in.

I'm a sucker for a good singer/songwriter with good guitar play and great lyrics. My current favorites are a new crop of American folk artists. Real, earthy, music with great lyrics and acoustic guitar. Most of them are backed up by David 'Goody' Goodrich who plays electric as backup for these guys, and produces them as well.

My current favorite is Jeffrey Foucault (I would say he is Neil Young like)

Jimmy Reed! I used to play that tune in a trio a few years back.

Sonny boy Williamson the II isn't to shabby either. :)
