Cake and Dottle

Postby cakeanddottle » Mon Mar 14, 2011 3:36 pm

Newer pipe smoker, new pipe blog. Still working out a couple of design issues, but the first content is up. Cake and Dottle will traverse the entire gamut as I develop from newb into a veteran pipe smoker. Hopefully you will find value in this site as time goes by, and I enjoy the heck out of doing it. Barely any content yet, but chime in with any criticisms, and yes, I know, the photos are crap. Consider them placeholders til I take some better shots.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the positive feedback! I upgraded some of the photos today, and going forward I won't be in such a hurry that I post any blurry pics. Still have a Peterson to review, a new Bjarne on the way and several tins to go through with more of those on the way as well.

I actually updated the site with a new article today. :D

I enjoy web forums, always have. They do a great job combining communication with a sense of community. It's so much easier to come here and participate then to spend time writing for a blog because it doesn't take much time or effort, you can express smaller thoughts and you get to interact with people you like. I am happy as a clam to spend 98% of my pipe writing here, creating content for Eric along with you guys. I find this group really awesome.

My intention for Cake and Dottle is to keep it limping along with the infrequent article. I'm busy. Day job, long commute, successful web business on the side, and husband and father first and foremost. Still raising kids here at the Lankton house, and that takes precedence over all the rest.

What I'd like is for Cake and Dottle to limp along while I do all this other stuff, and then in 10 years when I retire I can get more serious about it and write more frequently. It's a good plan, because I'll have a lot more to write about in 10 years and a lot more time to do it.

Cake and Dottle is not a money maker, nor was it created for that. If it pulls some ad revenue 10 years from now then great, if not, that's just fine too. I've always felt that real web content, the good stuff, was not about the earnings potential. The stuff that is really good is about the content, then the earnings follow. I'm a terrible web entrepreneur because I believe that content is first and all other considerations second. Despite that I've had some success over the years, probably by accident. Hopefully down the road when I retire and invest some time into it Cake and Dottle will be successful, at least in terms of the content. Until then, click my sig link every now and then and take a peek. I'm far more prolific on T&P, but I will try to post something worth looking at on C&D every now and then.

I absolutely love your Bonfiglioli Canadian and the Ferndown Squat Bulldog. I mean all your pipes are amazing, but those two are ones I would love to add to my collection.
