I did vote. I'll admit, the absentee ballot has spoiled me.....I loath actually going to the polls.

I've never missed an election. I stopped voting FOR people a very long time ago, because no matter who wins nothing changes except for the worse. I vote AGAINST people. Best case scenario: I'm sending a message.
It's really quite pointless because all these buttheads are bought and paid for by the people who REALLY run the country.

And that's why I haven't voted in 14 years. Well said HW.

I think the Governor trying to take guns away is a reference to the New York State "SAFE act" which you can read about here.
https://www.governor.ny.gov/nysafeact/gun-reform
I wonder how reality-based it is to believe that the governor of NY can take away guns when gun ownership is a freedom guaranteed by the US Constitution, but since I don't own any guns I don't spend much time panicking about the future of them.

A significant portion of Republicans are considered "extremely right wing" even by the leadership of the Republican party itself.

Confused
So that bit of legislation only restricts assault weapons and the amount of rounds you may carry in a magazine?
I'm not even going down the illegal or mentally I'll bit as that is quite simply just plain sensible
So based on the above you may still own more or less whatever rifle pistol etc you want provided it's not something like an ak47 etc
I can't see a problem over here we are not even allowed to carry a knife with a two inch blade if it has a locking mechanism so all leathermans etc are pretty much illegal

I knew someone who may disagree with that
Hebwas eating a tube of wine gums where each onebwas individually wrapped
Popped one into his mouth without thinking and choked in the wrapper

Conclusive proof id say that gums dint kill people but wrappers do

So some one breaks in to your crib they have a gun what do you do Kvela .Make him tea! Guess what shoes help kill people too! If he was not walking he would not have walked in front of the car. I have no use for folks who who want to take my rights away to defend myself. I carry concealed every day and no one is the wiser,I have a permit.

Easy, tiger ;) I'm just pointing out that a gun is a very useful tool to have if one wishes to kill another human being; more useful than your empty hands, more useful than a knife, more useful than a shoe. It seems we're in agreement about this much :)

If someone breaks into my house, he or she is not so likely to have a gun, owing to the laws in the country where I live. That's the point :)

I mean that because guns are illegal over here, it is a lot more difficult for anyone to get hold of them, including burglars or killers. That's why we don't have anywhere near as many classrooms of children massacred.
I'm not trying to take anything off of you, Chuck. I'm just pointing out what the thinking is behind anti-gun laws :)

Something I don't post about or hardly discuss maybe 5 or 6 people know the story but I think I should just for once.
I've been a victim of gun crime in the uk twice now first time two little scrotes help me and a mate up at gun point in Manchester City centre back in the 90's nothing happened just took a bit of cash and left, same day after getting the train home we were surrounded by armed police carrying mp5s I'm lead to believe they are called. We were arrested for armed robbery and it took 8 hours for one police force to get the details over what ha happened earlier and us out of custody not a good day let me tell you.
Not gun crime but similar being arrested in Italy by military types again with machine guns in 02 as our luggage looked to contain explosive devices, cable tied carried onto the concrete face down machine guns again this time jabbed into the base of my skull
Last but not least I have been shot I used to work on doors and one chap took offence at being refused entry. Bloke came back later having acquired a gi and shot me at point blank range. I'm still here as the gun he bought was a decommissioned thing that someone had fixed so it could shoot again the ammunition though was rubbish and only just penetrated my skin. I still have a small scar on my ribs from the bullet

If guns were legal here I would be dead no ifs no buts. Thankfully the laws we have make it hard to get hold of proper firearms so most criminal types don't use them
Next point In any of those situations how would my lot have been improved by owning and carrying a gun?
