good cigars under 5-6 bucks?

Postby chaissac1 » Sat Dec 26, 2009 12:18 am

newbie at cigars. Smoked a handful of 6- 12 dollar cigars... Any suggestions for good cigars that are under 6-5 dollars? I understand that's the normal price for a decent cigar--just wondering if there's some out there that won't break the pocketbook (at least mine anyways) that are up for the task rather than a cheapo. Also, a tutorial on reasonable humidors and storing methods would be great from everyone as well. I thought I'd ask everyone here rather than get lost in the quagmire of the internet. Much appreciated!

I find that Quaroum (I think thats how its spelled) are very good for their price. I usually only smoke those when I smoke cigars, or backwoods. but backwoods are smaller and less normal cigar looking, if you know what i mean. but yeah quaruoms I believe are 5 or six bucks a pop with 4 different types made by the brand.

My favorite cigar that is "cost effective" is Sancho Panza. I like the maduro box press the best. But really all of them are great cigars. Also Fuentes has a cheap stick called "Curly Head". I believe they are between the $3 and $5 range, of course this was over a year ago, so I am sure they have gone up since taxes have, however they should both still be in range.

I would go for Sancho over the curley heads. They are good smokes.

I would recommend staying away from bundles, but Cigars International has some good seconds, and there's a line of Maxx seconds that really are basically The Maxx without a band. They are a solid bundle, but will be $50 at least I think.

I would agree. Honestly I have given a Sancho to my cigar snob buddy, told him they were $15 sticks and only told him the real price after hhe said it was a great smoke.

Cohiba Blacks are fantastic, but the pequenos are the only ones in or below your price range, and I've taking a liking to Bandidos. The Bandidos are ugly little bastards, but they're tasty, and only about $0.50 each. Don't really have any suggestions for full-sized cigars, I prefer cigarillos.

I'd love to find a cheap cigarillio that doesn't taste like crap. For some reason most of them smell like cigs and have a horrible "tobacco" taste. I could care less if they are ugly, but things like backwoods are hardley smokeable IMHO. I'd give the bandidos a shot if I could find them individually here local. It would be nice to have a small good cigar for shirt work breaks where my pipe isn't a reasonable option.

Well, I don't think you'd be able to find Bandidos sold individually, but you can try. If not, I'm sure the shipping would be cheap enough that I could send one or two your way.

I've found passable cigarillos but nothing to blow my socks off. The J Fuego maduros are decent.

I got these last summer:

They're cheap and my favorite cigarillo to date, they're out of stock right now though.

Those actually look and sound like they'd be pretty damn good. Cheap, too. Maybe next time I buy some cigars I'll order some of those, too.

Another link to check out might be here:

I never got around to ordering them when I was in my cigar phase so I can't speak for them, but it's a great price and seems to have good reviews.

Just cant beat these for the price. Sandwich style, but rolled by the man Pepin Garcia himself. These are my favorite for the price.

These are excellent too, especially the "A" series. Actually any of the 5 (Pronounced cinco) Vegas series are excellent.

And these are downright tasty smooth for the price. Made by the Oliva family..

There are a lot of Cigars out there that are under the radar and excellent value for the money spent. The ones above are my favorites in that price range.

Ohh yeah these too..

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-GAA&cat=3 I like the corojo ones the best. Just a slight underlying sweetness adding to the smooth taste

As previously mentioned, Sancho Panza is a good choice. I also like Onyx Reserve, which makes good cigars at a decent price.

I really like El Ray Del Mundo. I've been smoking the heck out of them as of late. Actually I just bought a humidor and filled it up with them. I never thought I would do that but I like them that much. They are a great medium-full bodied cigar, just bliss. H.upmann is pretty good also.

After trying quite a few brands, H. Upmann is my go to cigar. I also smoke JR Alternative "H. Upmann"s when doing yard work. I have been buying from JR Cigar for 20+ years and have not been disappointed. http://www.jrcigars.com/ As the story goes, JR Cigars freezes all of their stock on arrival to their warehouse to kill any tobacco moth larve that could be present. I have never had a problem with moth damage in my humidor from his cigars. I did have a moth outbreak from some local discount cigars. You can find some great bargin from the JR Auction or JR Dutch Auction.

I just discovered JR Cigars about a month ago. That's were I bought my humidor and El Ray's. The cigars were in great condition. I'm very happy and will do more buisness with them. They have the best prices I've seen so far. How are the alternative's? I was thinking of getting some and was wondering how close they were to the real thing.
