Sorry for the long absence everyone - it's great to come back here, and see the forum in good health. In the nose, the venerable Wilson's of Sharrow Irish High Toast number 22. I expect this won't be changing anytime soon, as I have a lifetime supply of the stuff cellared  - I got anxious about a proposed ban on smokeless tobacco in the EU, which was deflected in the end (but came very close to being passed into law - it could have gone the same way as ecigs/vaping, which will be subject to a de facto ban in the EU in the near future).

In any case guys, here's to you *sniffs a pinch*. It's great to see you again.

Probably for the same reason they banned bent bananas. Go figure.

Thanks Aquaholic :)

From next year onwards, all non-tobacco nicotine containing products will be considered medicines, and are subject to rigorous medical testing and legislation. This will push out all manufacturers except the pharmaceutical industry (because no ecig manufacturer has the capital to do this), who will continue to sell their poor and overpriced nicotine replacement therapy. It is unsurprising that they lobbied fiercely for this shameful outcome, and got it. There was, and is, no evidence basis for this, but it happened anyway because of pharma lobbying and a cluster of public health zealots. Very depressing.

Packard's Club snuff in a left nostril.

Shortly followed by Wilson's Crumbs of Comfort in a right nostril.

( Thanks for the Bullet Frank :) )

Nice to see you again, Aaron. I noticed that your woodworking skills have been growing steadily in my absence! Great pipe that you posted. I love your snuff spoons too. There is something distinctly rustic and American about them, if that makes sense.

In the nose, good old IHT22.

Haven't snuffed as yet, but it'll be Wilson's Crumbs of Comfort seeing as it's already packed in my bullet :)

Good old Irish High Toast, for most of the day I expect. Perhaps a cheeky pinch of Elmo's Reserve later? ;)

Old Paris, my first love. It was the first snuff I had ever tried and is still my favorite.

I have never, ever tried snuff. Any recommendations on what to get, how to do it, etc., for a first-timer?

Snuff, fortunately, is dirt cheap. Get yourself a sampler pack and go from there. https://mrsnuff.com/product_info.php?pr ... b21a7ebbee

I had a look at the link, Jac. Thank you.
How do you actually use snuff? I've only ever seen it being used on TV or in films. It looks intriguing. But does it have any side effects to watch out for? That sounds rich, i must admit, from a smoker, but I hope you know what I mean!

There are different ways to take snuff. I first came across Glynn Quelch watching his snuff reviews. I didn't even know he sold pipe tobaccos back then. He probably has some instructionals on snuff tho I haven't checked.

Basically you take a small pinch and quickly sniff it up into your nose. Not so hard as to pass into your sinuses or throat and lungs. You need to adjust your technique depending on the moisture and texture of the snuff you are using.

Personally, apart from some 'zinging' I find I don't get much of an effect from nicotine taken this way, but studies show that it is an effective way of keeping blood levels level with nicotine. I don't need nicotine at all, but I think, or rather hope, that it has some effect staving off dementia and the like.

Unlike the pipe you only get a few minutes of fun from the flavours of snuff, until you repeat the exercise. I like the 'medicated' snuffs; these contain menthol and such, and my favourite is Wilson's Prime Minister.

Hope that helps.
