Congrats Derik! I'm sure it seemed tense at time talking to her dad, but it will all pay off in the end. Good Luck you and the future Mrs. Derik! :o

Let me also congratulate you and your intended. Slippery slope, that engagement business. Tends to lead to marriage and children, and all kinds of adult stuff, so you have to be careful :D . Never lose your sense of the joy and wonder in life.

BTW, my wife (SheWhoSpeaksLoudly or SWSL) and I have been together for 32 years.

No he did something much worse, he didn't react at all.

Well Derik, a least You made the effort. It's up to him to decide (within limits set by you and your intended) what the extent of his involvment will be.

Good luck young man! :)

Contratulations. I have been married ~2.5 years. My wife and I also met in College, its a crazy experience! Enjoy every moment! Can you tell us about how you proposed?

How long have you been dating? That might account for the reaction... if it was like two months before the proposal :P

My advice would certainly be to hope that he comes around, but to not let it stop you if he doesn't... unless you've only been dating for two months! It's an old-fashioned tactic that treats the woman like the father's property. If your girl wants it, that's really want matters in the end.
