Should Tobacco of the month continue?

Pick the option that most closely matches how you feel about this and discuss below... Also, if you want to volunteer to run the thing should it continue, throw your name in the hat here.

I have enjoyed reading the past "Tobacco of the Month" threads. Although I may not have the means to participate every month, I would still like to see the reviews of those of you that do. Not really being too terribly familiar with what all blends are out there, this kind of thread helps me to find what blends I might want to try.

Oh, I would also like to say how much I like the democratic approach used by this forum.

Likewise - if I can get hold of the tobacco in time I'm happy to play along

I would also love to see this continue.
Like a lot of the Brits here I cannot always take part due to availability however if I can I will.

I would like to see this continue and would like to participate. Is there any way to perhaps get an online retailer to give a T&P discount on specific blends? If, too, the tobacco of the month can be planned out a couple of months in advance so as to save on shipping, it would make it easier for those of us on a tight smoking budget to participate. I'd like to move beyond the cheapie bulks at my local (cigar) shop, but I'm not sure I can keep up.

I agree with vlad. Prehaps if we set say octobers now. Then we would all had time to save up and get hold. Then start smoking, if you can wait that long, on the first. Subject to it not being to much work for those organising.

Ruraldean (I think he volunteered) is running the show now as tobacco of the month is concerned. I'll be leaving it up to him to decide how he wants to do it. A lot of good suggestions so far. I can look into discounts.

I have never had the chance to participate. The few times it ran it was a blend or style I wasn't interested in, or just couldn’t obtain at the moment. If I have the funds and can order them in time then I would participate. I agree that whoever takes it over, a 2 month in advance plan would be wise. Ordering just 1 tin at a time is pointless.

Another option would take a bit of work on the person running it, but would be cool. If we had a e-tailer that had a large bulk selection, each month could be from those bulks. If they were willing we could send in an order for an ounce or so for say $5-8 and have that small sample shipped out to each participant. Not only would it save me a bit of money on buying an ounce of bulk instead of an entire tin I may not like, but it would possibly result in added sales for the e-tailer. It may take a bit of coordination in the beginning but may be more successful overall. Just a thought though.

I think this is a great idea, and I would like to participate if I can get a hold of the tobacco.
But it is November and the last thread I saw was for October.
So if this is still going on what is the current smoke?

I was wondering what was going on concerning tobacco of the month. I had tins of the tobacco in the running in my cellar save Cooper. I ordered it but to no avail--too late. Everybody had great points and I think a few months notice would get people involved. I liked the e-tailer sample pack idea in order to cut costs. I don't get to sample much just because of where I live, so I usually have to buy tins in order to try something out which can get costly. I suppose everyone goes through this.

I did this over on another site (we are just wrapping up a full year next month). I gave 3 months notice for each blend which gave folks time to gather funds and hit shipping deals. It was an entheusiastic group for a bit, had about a dozen folks consistantly speaking up (out of like 60 people in the group). But things died down fairly quickly and I rarely even go to the group anymore. Nobody posts much, I can't get all the blends anyway anymore with where I live. It just got to be a bit frusterating. I will not be continuing it past December.

Your situation may be different, and I hope you can continue to make it work.

I was thinking about this the other day when I stumbled across a sampler pack of tobaccos that one blender had put out. something like 8 2oz tins. Would selecting a blender then trying an assortment of that blenders tobacco be a good way to go about doing the tobacco of the month?. The assortment set I saw was like $70 USD. Or is there such a thing as smaller samples in a sample pack?
To sum up what I was thinking is instead of pick a completely different tobacco each month have a "sample pack" ready to go with each month a different tin in the bunch.
Anyways its just an idea. What does everyone think? Do we still want to keep Tobacco of the Month going?
