2015 POY

Re: 2015 POY

Richard, this is news to me. I didn't realize there was a "go/no go" decision based on number of members showing interest, or even a vote as to who would be willing to buy one. I must have missed those posts.

Bob asked the mod team to manage this and said that he did not think that we should do it without 20 participants or so. We kicked it around and Steve got in touch with a few potential carvers. There wasn't really a point at which a decision was reached, it was more a matter of seeing that interest was minimal and things dying on their own.

If you guys really want to do this as maybe a Xmas pipe, I am willing to help as originally planned, but I also think that 20 is the magic number to justify the effort.

Thanks for the update Richard. To be honest, I think getting 20 members to commit would be hard. However, I think if say 10 would commit, it may be worth the effort. A smaller number may actually be better to get a commissioned pipe with all the bells and whistles that would commemorate the forum and year. Maybe a nice real silver band with T&P 2015, members initials, etc. Something of value to those who participate. Just my 0.02 cents worth.

I would be very happy even if there were only ten or so interested members, though I do take your point re 20, I think. It also means less work and pressure for potential carvers, though less income for them. A Christmas pipe would be a great project and I'm sure it would generate some fresh interest. Perhaps a notional 20 but with enough flexibility to accommodate less? I'd also be happy to get a pipe myself, with a specially engraved band etc. Further discussion on the Mod Panel?

Is there any thought going around reg. what price level we might be looking at?

I'm definitely interested but before I commit, I would need to know at least a rough estimate. By that I mean, is it $50-$100, $100-$200 or further up than that? This is the sort of pipe I would love to own, but finances are such that I need to consider it. Say it was $100, then I would be pretty certain to go for it.

Let me know if I can help with the POY. I am thinking LDG can help us with either a Rossi or Savinelli 320 author with custom band or imprinting.

What happened a few years ago is that the maker pulled out at the last minute.

I am sure the products are great - provided nothing extraordinary happens (i.e. if the maker pulls out at the last minute).
