4Noggins- Down By the River, Praire Wind, 3 Blind Moose.

Ok I have now had a chance to smoke all the blends I have ordered from 4noggins, plus the sample, and here's my two cents.

Three Blind Moose
Out of the bag this smelled like butterscotch pudding, very rich, heavy butterscotch smell that I enjoyed. It was not sticky, overly moist, or difficult to pack. As soon as I lit it, my daughter came running over trying to get a whiff...the room note is amazing, no complaints from the family there. It maintained it's flavor of butterscotch throughtout the smoke. There wasn't much hint of casing that I could tell, but I felt like I had I nice coating over my mouth when I was done. However it wasn't heavy or anything, just there reminding me of the smoke after I had finished, very pleasent. I won't be smoking this as an all day smoke as it is still quite sweet, but when I want an aro, this is great. Wasn't wet, didn't require many relights except when I sat it down and went off to do other things.

Prairie Wind
This is the first VaPer I have had, was not sure what to expect here, never tasted perique before. This blend smelled spicy out of the bag, was not overly moist, and easy to handle. It had a good taste of tobacco and was very full flavored. My first impression was, this is fantastic. The smoke was spicy as well and I could definately taste the perique (assuming this is the spiciness, like I said never tasted it before but was definately different from other tobaccos I've had). This may very well be my new favorite type of tobacco. It is not sweet, you can really taste the tobacco, and it's a much more complex mix of flavors than I'm used to. Smoked all the way to the bottom of the bowl, needed no relights, was not wet at all. Probably the best I have tasted so far.

MacBaren Vanilla Flake
I received the as a sample with my main order. I am writing about this next as it gave me some trouble, and really made me appreciate the last of the 4noggins blends. First of all, the smell out of the bag was fantastic! I am a huge vanilla fan (candles, scentsies, ect all over the house). I was very excited. I have never messed with a flake before so I went online to see how to use it. I watched 2 videos, went to the MacBaren website, and decided I was ready. They all showed folding it into quarters, and packing it in the pipe. From here on out this smoke turned out to be a comedy of errors. When I finally got it lit, it retained it's very nice vanilla smell, a very light vanilla flavor, and I could still taste the tobacco very nicely. I was impressed, however, it was all down hill from there. Mind you, this was no fault of the tobacco, just my inexperience, and user error. It rapidly turned into a gooey, wet, gurgling mess of molten lava that bit my tongue like a starved pirannah . It didn't take me long to figure out that this was a good tobacco, but I was a complete noob. So, I looked around a bit on the forums here, and seen that a majority of you sound like you rub it out, let it dry a little and proceed as normal. I wil be trying this tomorrow. I completely expect to be pleased .

Down By the River
This is just a simple burley, and that's why I liked it so much. Smelled like tobacco, tasted like tobacco. Not a lot going on here, just very simple flavors. It smells great, and has a very good, slightly sweet, flavor. After the thrashing of flavors my mouth took, and the beating I gave myself with MacB, this was a very welcomed change of pace. I could easily smoke this in a cob, without a second thought all day long. This one will be with me at work, it was very relaxing. It's kind of like coming home from a hard day at work and plopping down in your favorite easy chair. I had to relight a few times, but it smoked well to the bottom of the bowl with very little dottle.

Like I said, thats just my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth, I'm still very new to tobacco blends that I can't pick up at the drug store :D.

*EDITED TO UPDATE*
This morning, before I left for my other job, I rubbed out the rest of the Mac Baren. I left it open to air during my hour commute, and while I checked in ambulances. Afterwards, I packed and smoked as normal. I did take a very long time to finish this bowl, kept the pipe very cool, and fairly on the loose side. I had much better luck this round than my first attempt. There was no bite, and it went very well with my coffee.

I'm in the same boat, except for this week's tobacco order arriving I had only up to this point smoked stuff from the drugstore. I'll have to try Down by the river though from the sound of it. It sounds right up my alley. Good reviews.

Great reviews. I haven't tried any of these, but it sounds like I would like all of them. I'm developing quite a list for my next order. I might end up splitting it into two orders.

I need to be careful with vapers, as the perique sometimes can burn my tongue if smoked too hard or fast. Same with some aros.

I have been trying the "fold and stuff" method with flakes off and on for a while. Some flakes need some drying time, whether you rub them out or not. I have found that if I leave a couple flakes out to dry for about an hour, I can do the fold and stuff with relative success. It is usually harder to light, but once lit it smokes slower and cooler, and needs fewer relights.
