POY?

POY?

Postby KevinM » Fri Feb 24, 2017 6:37 pm

Has there been any discussion on a 2016/2017 POY?

A 'Pipe of the Year'? Not that I'm aware of.

I was just wondering Kev. We did one in 2012 (Mark Tinsky), 2013 (Ferndown), and 2014 (Invicta). Apparently T&P no longer into doing them. My tobacco club is doing one with Basil Meadows of Red Dog Pipes this year to celebrate our one year anniversary

Bob, Steve and I tried to get this going in 2015 and flamed out, very minimal interest expressed by members. Didn't even bother in 2016.

If you want to push it, I will probably sign up but am done with helping to organize anything here.

No thanks Richard! I actually organized the 2014 Invicta. We only had 8 members purchase. It's a thankless effort and one I haven't heard about from T&P for awhile.

I can't afford to spend much on pipes. Bob kindly gave me a Missouri Meerschaum 'Tamp & Puff 2014' corn cob pipe as a thank-you, but she's the only 'pipe of the year' in my collection. My smoking money is dedicated to tobacco, these days.

I feel with numbers as they are, it's a bit difficult to gauge a POY. If things perk up, then maybe next year. But I'm not willing this year to try it owing to other commitments that take up a lot of my current time. Apologies.
Appreciate you raising the issue.
I can list a few U.K. and European makers, but don't know US ones. Might be handy for folk to mention some makers for reference.
Hmmm...I will let this simmer for a while.

It's a shame. We had such a robust membership when I first signed up in 2010/2011.

Yes it is a shame , I am hoping that things will pick up again. I hope Eric is well , if he would show back up it might would help things along a bit who knows. G'Day
