Altinok Pipes

Altinok Pipes

Postby Taspiper » Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:42 am

Has anyone had experience with altinokpipes.com?
I'm getting over the search for a Peterson block meer and figure I may as well go for something new which I can colour myself.
I'm looking at a Signature Series apple SG634 silver spigot.
The quality looks good and they run 4mm airways that pass pipe cleaners. This is my preferred airway size which I find perfect.
The price is probably fair too considering what some of the Petersons are going for on eBay.
Cheers Rolf

Rolf,

I havent had any experience Altinok but I have with Best Meerschaum and their Baki pipes. Both I and my one friend have one and they smoke great!

Not trying to switch you etc, but check out # BC 57 (Twain); Similar but slightly different at the same time and, it looks like its slightly larger and "cheaper" too

Heres the link: http://bestmeerschaums.homestead.com/bakipipes.html

Good luck on your search

Thanks for the link George.
He makes some nice pipes too, I quite like the "Cage"
I can see this research is going to lead to meer fever :D Mmm. Not sure why I'm smiling :(

I have an Altinok Calabash which is very well made, and smokes perfectly. I often browse his website, and sooner or later will be buying another meer from there.

I have an Altinok pipe. Very good smoking pipe I find. The deal was swift and communication was great. I wanted it to be less bent than the one in the picture on their website and it came out just as I specified it.
Shipping was some 50USD, but it arrived at noon the day after it was shipped from Istanbul. I'd buy from hin again if I was on the market for another meer.

Here it is.

Here I am BTW.

Hope I haven't started something here :D

I got the following info from another forum that may also be interesting for some:

My only experience with "Black/Gray Meerschaum" was with Pioneer. Pioneer offered many African block meers back in the 70's and I believe the same company may have made the Pete meers of that era. Some scammers try to sell Pioneers as Petes and though they both use the "P" as their moniker/trademark, they aren't Petes.
Peterson's "P" is all over the place in shape and Pioneer's "P" is very similar and they too are somewhat all over the place in shape but not quite as much as Peterson. It's easy to fool many.

Keep an eye on ebay for these pipes they do show up now and then.

Ditto - it's a cracker; have a soft spot for spigots myself - next 999 will be one,

Looks like it will be a spigot Altinok in the near future although I just won a block Pete to restore first.

I bought an Altinok churchwarden earlier this year. I requested some moderate customization, and Mr. Altinok was very accommodating. After smoking my pipe for a few minutes, my brother placed an order for a similar pipe.

Both pipes smoke phenomenally, and Sinan Altinok provides the best customer service I've ever experienced with an online order. I have no doubt I'll order another Altinok in the future.
