I've been active on internet discussion forums for fifteen years, and often some form of pipe-smoking discussion most of that. I've found pipe smokers one of the most courteous, mature, and friendly groups around so what few rules I have for now are basic:

1. No spam. I'm not going to bother defining it; I know it when I see it. If you see it before I do, report it immediately. Accounts posting spam will be banned.

2. Be respectful of others. Remain courteous, mature, and friendly. The other members, including me, are real people. Conduct yourself as you would in the smoking lounge at your local B&M, a friend's party, etc. Excessive profanity will lead to consequences.

3. Keep the controversial topics in the proper forum.

4. Absolutely, positively, no porn, nudity, illegal, illicit, or recreational drug talk, hate speech, racial or ethnic epithets, name-calling, flaming, or bashing anyone on or off this forum. This includes the debate forum and all other forums. See #2. You can criticize tobacco bans, taxes, policies, or legislation without personal attacks on the politicians.

5. Do not discuss moderator actions publicly. Use private messages.

Some general tips on posting effectively:

1. Please make your subject lines descriptive. Save the clever attention-getter for the first line of the post.

2. Use the proper forum for your topic.

3. Don't hijack threads. Any member in good standing can start threads freely. The more the better, don't be shy about it.

4. If you are not sure, don't do it, or at least ask first.

5. Have fun!

One more thing I'm afraid... Don't ask for your account to be deleted and posts removed should you ever decide to end your participation here. You can ask, but I won't remove them. The best thing to do on any forum if you don't care to participate is walk away quietly with no fanfare. I am willing to tolerate a lot of things here but in keeping with the theme that we're all adults, I won't entertain drama.
