Proud new owner of a pipe? See something noteworthy on Ebay? Post about it here.

I used E-Bay for the first time...and won

Postby KevinP » Wed Feb 01, 2017 12:31 am

I've avoided ebay, perhaps a little scared of what it would do to my wallet. But every now and then I'd follow a link someone posted, and while I was there I searched for something I might be interested in. This happened again recently and I saw a bunch of Jaconos (my favourite pipemaker). Most of them were straights and I always smoke bents. There was one Queen but it's very similar to one I already have so I passed, but I did bid on and win this bulldog:

This got my curiosity because it doesn't fit the normal grading pattern. It's partially rusticated, so it should be a Bishop grade, yet that designation doesn't appear on the pipe and a '3' does. So I'm guessing this is an older pipe and he didn't always use the chess piece grading system. Enough of an oddity that I had to bid, and a nice pipe to boot.

She does indeed look great. A fine win, there. Love the shape and finish to it.
Hope you will have many great smokes from her.

Nice score. Ebay offers a lot of good and bad, you just have to be careful about sellers and avoid alcohol while making bidding decisions. :)

Wow. I'm really glad I got this one. Although I have a couple other pure bulldogs/rhodesians (as opposed to hybrids, part apple or part horn, etc.), they're all smaller and I seldom smoke them. (Plus one is vulcanite which doesn't agree with my body chemistry very well.) This one is bigger--group 4 at least--than the photo made it look, and I love it.
