Thinning out the collection...

If its about the fine hobby of pipe smoking but not specific to one of the other forums post about it here.

Thinning out the collection...

Postby Geo3rge » Wed Mar 29, 2017 8:36 am

Anyone have pipes that seem to remain unsmoked in their collection?
Just been wondering what to do with a number of mine that haven't seen a shred of tobacco for a while. They sit in a large pot, mostly new or hardly smoked, and I'm considering giving them away at some point. For some reason, I don't go to them and the ones I do smoke in various rotations are all on different shelves and racks.

There they sit, staring at me every time I enter the study. I haven't spent a fortune on them as they are mostly the cheaper end of the scale and one or two cost virtually nothing, comparatively speaking. No great makes either and quality of one or two is decidedly on the lower rung.

Do you have a similar 'problem'? How do you deal with it?
One possible solution for me is to take them to a pipe meeting of one of the groups I belong to here and just say: "Help yourselves, folks". That, or take them to a local charity shop as a bulk item...

That's what comes from buying pipes and the ever-present PAD. Must get a grip...

Moi, fumer une pipe, naturellement...

Why not sell them on eBay? :)

Steve, see if you can't work a deal with a local shop. They may be interested and give cash or store credit for the lot.

I've got around 30 pipes that I just put into a closed box. They aren't junk, I think one is an old Charatan and 3 are Peterson Harps in fact. I just didn't smoke them and wanted to get them out of the way.

I don't have a plan for these guys, no reason to have a plan.
If even I don't know how many pipes I own, how the hell would you know if I have too many?

Depending on just how many you have I would sell the best of them on ebay & maybe try and find a friend you may can turn on to pipe smoking with 2 or 3 of them.
